  • North Carolina School Health Training Center (NC SHTC) is uniquely positioned to assist North Carolina Healthy Schools within the Department of Public Instruction to continue to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Cooperative Agreement, a five-year award, to support ten priority school districts. This contract will build on work completed in years 1 -4 by expanding completion of the School Health Index through currently established school leads and implementing in additional schools. The School Health Index is a CDC self-assessment used to inform planning efforts for the Cooperative Agreement. In addition, the NC SHTC will follow up with team leads of SHI completers in years 1-4 to review action plan summaries, actions taken, and revisions for subsequent years. The NC SHTC will provide professional development for Elementary, Middle and High School Health Education in addition to developing a companion document to the NC SHAC Manual on youth engagement strategies. Lastly, the NC SHTC will also assist with planning and implementing the annual statewide School Health Advisory Council meeting for all districts in spring of 2023. This meeting provides an opportunity for sharing, networking, and identifying strategies to implement in their local schools and communities with partners.
