The Neuroprotective Effects of Sulforaphane in VPA-Induced Models of Autism Grant uri icon

abstract

  • The goal of this project is to determine whether the phytochemical, sulforaphane, can prevent neurodevelopmental disorders induced by environmental contamination. To model environmental contamination, we use a VPA-induced model of autism. To assess whether sulforaphane can protect the developing human brain, we use human brain spheroids. To assess whether sulforaphane prevents the development of autism-associated behaviors, we use a well-established mouse model. The following research benefits from the combined strengths of the human brain and mouse behavioral models to address whether sulforaphane prevents the development of altered neural circuitry and behaviors in response to environmental contamination.
