Insecticide Resistance in North Carolina Mosquitoes 2023-2024
Grant
Overview
abstract
-
Many mosquito species have become resistant, or are developing resistance, to the few insecticides available for removing infected adult mosquitoes. In addition, it has been shown that this level of resistance is different from one town to the next within North Carolina. Therefore, there is a constant need to compile a list of mosquito-specific insecticides that will be immediately actionable for local vector programs, the state, or other partners when future mosquito-borne outbreaks occur. The information gained through this contract will allow for a rapid assessment of risk, targets for intervention through vector control, and baseline data for future comparison regardless of the emerging disease threat to humans. This contract will build upon the work developed in 2017-23, including improvement of the State's ability to guide county and city programs in reducing disease risk to the public. This knowledge will allow local programs to target larvicide and adulticide treatments and focus education messages.
