Attainment and Synthesis of Critical Field Data to Evaluate the Influence of Onsite Wastewater Nutrient Inputs and Validate Watershed Models in the Falls Lake Watershed Grant uri icon

abstract

  • Michael O'Driscoll (PI; Coastal Studies), Charlie (co-PI) and myself (co-PI) were awarded $15,000 from theNorth Carolina PolicyCollaboratoryto study onsite wastewater nutrient contributions to the Falls Lake Watershed. Falls Lake is a critical water supply resource for Raleigh, but has been suffering from eutrophication since its initial impoundment. The project will help quantify the influence septic systems have on nutrient contributions to tributaries of Falls Lake, which should help improve watershed modeling efforts in the future.
