  • This one-year proposal allows the NC Agromedicine Institute to strengthen its Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network of NC (FRSAN-NC) to support the mental health and safety needs of farming communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. Focusing on relief and recovery for the estimated 13,000 farms and 39 affected counties and tribal lands, the project aims to reduce mental health impacts on farmers, farmworkers, foresters, and their families. Objectives include: (1) expanding the Farm Stress Resource Directory with disaster-related resources, (2) increasing the NC Farm Help Line?s 24/7 crisis support with Hopeline, Inc., (3) training 50 peer farmers and 200 agricultural support workers in psychological first aid, (4) providing 250 free mental health service encounters, and (5) producing a project impact report for future proposals.
