PREPare for Success (PREP) is a program designed to educate adolescents and young adults on both abstinence and contraception to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS, and to address at least three adulthood preparation subjects. PREP is administered by Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiatives (TPPI) of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The primary goal of this program is to support the implementation and institutionalization of the 2009 Healthy Youth Act (HYA), which requires local schools to adopt a comprehensive sexuality education approach in health education classes, with an opportunity to implement evidence-based adolescent pregnancy prevention strategies in middle and high school health classes and community-based programs. This contract will address teen pregnancy prevention in North Carolina by enabling the North Carolina School Health Training Center at East Carolina University (ECU), to provide training, resources, consultation and technical assistance to middle and high school health teachers, facilitators in community-based organizations and college instructors providing instruction or programming in reproductive health.
