abstract

  • NC Agromedicine Institute will work with NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, NC Cooperative Extension, Baptist on Mission/CareNet and other community partners to develop a comprehensive statewide farm and ranch stress assistance network by: ? Educating NC's farming community (e.g., farmers, farm family members, Cooperative Extension agents, lenders, etc.) to recognize signs/symptoms of anxiety, depression, suicidality, and other behavioral health conditions. ? Expanding resources available to NC's farming community necessary to prevent and respond to farm-stress related conditions; ? Identifying behavioral health providers with a farm-related background; provide training for behavioral health providers not from a farm-related background to ensure that they understand the 'culture' of agriculture and unique challenges of working with members of the farming community; ? Developing and implementing a community-based internship program in agricultural behavioral health. ?
