Stochastic Modeling of Coastal Environment Using Remote Sensing and Autonomous Vehicles
Grant
Overview

The specific research questions we will address in this program include: 1) how do we evaluate sensor and data uncertainties and portray their contributions in the overall topographic model; and 2) based on the accuracy of the topographic model and the reliability of the uncertainty model, are we able to detect and predict meaningful topographic changes in various types of coastal environments? In addition, we will engage the communities in the North Carolina coastal regions by 1) sharing our vision, technologies, results and discoveries with the community members and 2) actively engaging students and teachers at pre-university levels, and undergraduate students from a variety of majors.
