Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a common and serious cardiovascular disease associated with significant morbidity and mortality. AF is the most common arrhythmia in the United States, affecting more than 2.7 million adults. Even though risk factors and serious complications of AF are well known, AF has not received the same attention as other chronic conditions to improve screening, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The proposed study will involve community engagement to promote awareness of AF. In addition to providing education, approximately 250 individuals will be screened for AF. Screening will be done in community and healthcare settings using the AliveCor device. AliveCor is a mobile clinically-validated EKG monitor. This easy to use technology has the ability to detect AF. In the event AF is detected, information on local cardiology clinics will be provided.
