abstract

  • The LifeVest, a Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator, can prevent sudden cardiac death. Investigation of the LifeVest, including clinical trials, is ongoing. Sears and Burch will act as consultants for ZOLL, creator of the LifeVest. Consultant duties will include: creation of patient and clinician educational material, creation of presentations for patients and clinicians outlining how to overcome study barriers, study design, data analysis, manuscript preparation and publication, travel (to Pittsburgh, PA and other sites as needed), and others as identified by ZOLL. Further, Sears and Burch will conduct several lines of secondary data analysis on data from a large national sample of LifeVest users. Data analysis will be conducted on patient data with all identifiers removed. A number of research questions such as: average activity level of patients wearing LifeVest, predictors of activity level, which health summary questions provide unique and additional information for clinical management, and what factors are associated with wear time, will be assessed. University policy regarding Intuitional Review Board oversight for research will be followed.
