Patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) are susceptible to psychosocial adjustment difficulties and decrements in quality of life. It has been demonstrated that providing ICD patients with education and cognitive behavioral therapy buffers these patients against the aforementioned problems. It is hypothesized that further research on patterns of adjustment, education, and use of coping mechanisms will enhance ICD patients' knowledge and acceptance of device treatment, and ultimately their quality of life. In this project, the Principle Investigator will engage in a number of research activities to benefit ICD patients by working with Medtronic, Inc. Specifically, the Principle Investigator will engage in the following activities, as they relate to three of Medtronic, Inch projects titled ADAMS, Acute Miocardial Infarction (AMI), and Integrated Diagnostics: 1) Assist Medtronic in the development of clinic workflows and system solutions that will improve patient acceptance of therapies. 2) Assist Medtronic in identifying the psychological impact of project solutions on patients, nurses, and physicians. 3) Assist Medtronic in designing patient market research related to projects. 4) Assist Medtronic in the development and refinement of communication approaches related to project platforms. 5) Attend meetings as reasonably requested by Medtronic. The Principle Investigator will provide the following deliverables: 1) Analysis reports 2) Written or verbal response to the print ready copies provided by Medtronic 3) Patient survey instruments 4) Web application logic 5) Other reports as reasonable requested by Medtronic
