The LifeVest, a Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator, can prevent sudden cardiac death. Investigation of the LifeVest, including clinical trials, is ongoing. Dr. Sears will conduct secondary data analysis on data from a large national sample of LifeVest users. Data analysis will be conducted on patient data with all identifiers removed. A number of research questions such as: average activity level of patients wearing LifeVest, predictors of activity level, which health summary questions provide unique and additional information for clinical management, and what factors are associated with wear time, will be assessed. University policy regarding Intuitional Review Board oversight for research will be followed. Dr. Sears will produce abstracts and manuscripts using this data to disseminate research findings at conferences and in relevant peer-reviewed publications.
