Implementing the Watershed Restoration Plan for the Lower White Oak River Grant uri icon

abstract

  • Scientists from East Carolina University (ECU) within the Departments of Health Education and Promotion, Geological Sciences, Engineering, and in the Institute for Coastal Science and Policy will contract with the North Carolina Coastal Federation to help implement portions of the White Oak River Watershed Restoration Plan. The goal of this project will be to improve water quality by reducing the volume of runoff discharged to waterways during storm events. The reduction in runoff should occur as a result of stormwater best management practices (BMP) that will be designed and installed in the watershed. ECU in cooperation with the NC Coastal Federation will provide technical expertise related to matching site conditions with appropriate stormwater BMPs, design of BMPs, coordination of BMP installations, evaluation of the performance of the BMPs, and monitoring water quality in receiving waterways.
