CofActor: Investigation of the Role of Cytoskeletal Dysregulation in Neurodegenerative Disease Grant uri icon

abstract

  • The proposed research provides insight into the impacts of mitochondrial dysfunction, a critical event in the progression of numerous mitochondria-linked diseases, including ALS, in cell culture and in a vertebrate model organism. This project uses a novel optogenetic switch for the rapid and selective induction of mitochondrial dysfunction. The project seeks to better understand the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in the progression of ALS and to identify new therapeutic avenues for its treatment.
