Adapted Sailing and Quality of Life of Persons with Physical Disabilities
Grant
Overview
abstract
-
Participation in sailing by people with disabilities is widely regarded as having positive outcomes on quality of life (QOL); however, research is lacking (Autry and Anderson, 2016) and leisure constraints to sailing for people with disabilities include: knowledge, skills, accessibility, and financial barriers. Increasing QOL is viewed as an important goal in rehabilitation for people with physical disabilities and research involving the improvement of QOL is of great interest (Recio, et al., 2013). Access to sailboats is required for adapted sailing interventions and will be the focus of the grant proposal. The research study on this intervention requires a hoist/lift.
