Community Asset Mapping Workshops for the Blue Economy Corridor in the Eastern Tar-Pamlico River Basin Grant uri icon

abstract

  • Research has long supported the notion that development strategies which include tourism and recreation as economic drivers are most successful when they are underpinned by residents' support for a given development strategy (Boley et al., 2014; Kim & Thapa, 2018; Long et al., 1990; Yeager et al., 2020). Residents' support for tourism including those in rural communities is directly linked to feelings of agency in the tourism development process (Boley et al., 2014; Strzelecka et al., 2017). To extend agency to residents in the design and content of the corridor, in-person asset mapping workshops guided by Appreciative Inquiry (AI) will be used to identify existing assets within the Blue Economy Corridor through.
