Phoenix Historical Society Project (historically black Kingsboro community in Edgecombe County)

East Carolina University (ECU) Special Collections seeks to partner with the Phoenix Historical Society (PHS) to secure funding to complete a documentary telling the story of the mid 1990's fight against a proposed slaughterhouse in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. A public screening will be coordinated within the local Kinsgboro community (subject to Covid-19 regulations), and final copy of the documentary will be openly available online through ECU's Digital Collections site. Further, the documentary and associated content, such as research documents and historical papers, will supplement ECU's studies of sociology, environmental justice, and environmental racism, among others.
