abstract

  • Evaluation of Hyde County Schools Dropout Prevention Program The project is an evaluation of a dropout prevention program implemented through Hyde County Public Schools. The purpose of this evaluation is to understand to what extent youth experience changes in short-term outcomes of social and emotional functioning in school and behaviors related to academic performance. Evaluation activities include the following: ? Focus groups with key staff and students ? Data analyses of measures for school connectedness and competence ? Data analyses on program monitoring, extant school data for end-of-grade scores, end-of-course scores, attendance, discipline and behavioral issues, and attendance at dropout prevention activities. The evaluation seeks to understand: 1) To what extent is the program successful in enrolling and retaining students in services? 2) To what extent do students experience significant positive changes in proposed outcomes (i.e., end-of-grade scores, end-of-course scores, attendance, discipline and behavioral issues, and attendance at dropout prevention activities)? The contract in question is an agreement between Hyde County Public Schools and East Carolina to secure the services of Clifton Watts, as an evaluation consultant for the project and a research assistant to assist Dr. Watts. The intention of this contract is to compensate Dr. Watts for scheduled tasks related to evaluating the drop-out prevention program. A plan of work with budget narrative is attached.
