• Dr. Lee W. Boushell received his D.M.D. degree from the University of Florida, an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Certificate from the U.S. Army DENTAC and a master's degree in Operative Dentistry from the University of North Carolina. Dr. Boushell practiced general dentistry for approximately thirteen years (US Army Dental Corps and Solo Private Practice) during which time he became a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He has taught dentistry at the University of Florida (adjunct clinical instructor - 2001-03) and the University of North Carolina (graduate teaching assistant - 2004-06, faculty - 2006-19). He joined the Eastern Carolina University School of Dental Medicine Faculty in Dec 2019 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of General Dentistry.
  Dr. Boushell has basic science research background in the area of dentin collagen and non-collagenous proteins specific to their role in the progression of dental caries and in degradation of the dentin-adhesive bond. Dr Boushell is actively involved in clinical research in the area of dental adhesives and composite resin materials. In addition, he is conducting research of operative dentistry educational methodologies used in dental school higher education as well as strategic curricular best practices. He also maintains a part-time intramural practice devoted to restorative/esthetic dentistry and management of occlusion related pathology of the masticatory system.
  Dr. Boushell is a member of various professional organizations including the North Carolina Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association and the International Association for Dental Research.
  Dr. Boushell has served as a reviewer for Acta histochemical, Archives of Oral Biology, Caries Research, International Journal of Oral Science, Journal of Dentistry, Journal of Dental Education, Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Journal of Oral Rehabilitation and Oral Diseases.
  Dr. Boushell has published multiple journal articles specific to his research as well as articles for use as patient education aids for private practitioners. He has also authored multiple textbook chapters. He has presented his research at international science meetings and has presented national and regional continuing education lectures.
