Brittany Thompson received her Bachelors of Science in Animal Science from North Carolina State University in 2001. After graduation, she worked in pathology research at North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007, Brittany completed an Associates of Arts in Photographic Technology from Randolph Community College. In May of 2014, she received a Masters of Arts in Health Communication from East Carolina University.
She currently is a senior teaching instructor at East Carolina University in the School of Communication and a faculty fellow in the Honors College. Courses of instruction include Introduction to Communication Theory, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Business and Professional Communication, Public Speaking, Communication Senior Capstone, Leadership and Service Honor Colloquium, and EC Scholars Leadership Internship. From 2019 - 2024, Ms. Thompson served as the School of Communication Internship Coordinator.
Ms. Thompson's teaching and creative interest centers around professional readiness in college students. Her focus is on resume building and branding, networking, interviewing, professional writing and communication, and internships.
In addition to teaching, Brittany manages the website content for the School of Communication and has served on a variety of committees from high level search committees to coordinating the university's New Faculty Orientation. Out of all of her responsibilities, engaging with students is the highlight of her career.
In 2021, Brittany received a Board of Governors Distinguished Professor of Teaching Award. In Spring 2019, Brittany received ECU's Robert L. Jones Teaching Award for excellence in engaged teaching. In Fall of 2018, she received the first Faculty Impact Award from ECU Career Services for her dedicated work to preparing students for careers after college.
