Andrea Presotto

overview

  • My research is inherently interdisciplinary and situated at the intersection of geography, environmental studies, spatial cognition, geospatial analysis, and conservation. I provide expertise in geographic information systems (GISs), remote sensing, spatial analysis, and spatial statistics, leveraging GIScience and spatial theory to develop and apply innovative, data-driven approaches for understanding how anthropogenic actions shape the movement of natural systems.
As human populations expand, wild animals increasingly navigate landscapes transformed by infrastructure and diverse human activities. One of the central concepts guiding my work is the navigation patterns of animals, which are now also influenced by their landscape of fear, which is the spatial variation in an organism's perceived risk. which shapes movement decisions across space and time. By integrating spatial theory with geospatial technologies and quantitative spatial modeling, my current projects examine how animals travel under conditions of fear and how risk landscapes emerge and change.
My current projects aim to promote coexistence between humans and other species in coastal environments and other Brazilian ecosystems, supporting conservation planning through spatial insights.
