James Edward Speicher

  • Dr. Speicher has joined the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences and East Carolina Heart Institute as Assistant Professor in the Division of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery
    Dr. Speicher’s clinical interests include all forms of benign and malignant esophageal disease, lung cancer, chest wall and mediastinal disease, and general thoracic surgery. ; He is board certified and both general and thoracic surgery. ; His research interests include lung cancer, esophageal cancer and outcomes of esophageal surgery. ; He also has a strong interest in resident education and will be working closely to build the thoracic surgery residency.
    Dr. Speicher is a native of Nebraska and attended the University of Kansas for both undergraduate and medical school. ; He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Missouri, after which he served on the faculty in general surgery prior to his advanced training. ; He then completed his cardiothoracic residency at the University of Iowa. ; He served on the faculty in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA prior to his arrival at East Carolina University.
    Dr. Speicher lives in Greenville with wife Rachel, an anesthesiologist, and their son Jefferson and daughter Caroline. ; In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, cooking, and physical fitness activities.
