Donald Pack taught at ECU after receiving his MBA for a year in the Decision Sciences Department. He taught programming, statistics and managerial economics.
He moved to Empire Brushes as the Marketing Manager becoming the Director of Marketing. He built the department from scratch. The company invested in qualitative and quantitative marketing research. From that information, the company invented its first million-unit product representing a hundredfold increase from past new products. The company also invested in new packaging and point-of-purchase advertising. The company was sold to Rubbermaid after growing the company fourfold in 8 years.
From there Pack started his own marketing services company doing for other companies what he had done at Empire Brush. One early success was creating a new display program for Home Depot to sell brooms and brushes on bulk boxes. Home Depot reduced stocking costs by 40% and the new visibility grew sales by 35% which was a huge win for a growing company. He repeated that success for Home Depot to two other companies.
For the next ten years Creative Approach Group worked with various companies in the automotive, medical, housewares and hardware industries to develop new products and better point-of-sale materials.
After a necessary change Pack started another marketing services company, Strategic Marketing and Design doing the same types of things for similar companies. More manufacturers were moving to China so the company was refocused on website development and taking small companies with no retail experience to Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes &; Rite Aid.
After another ten years Pack returned to teaching at ECU in 2014. He has been part of the Leadership and Professional Development Program in the College of Business.
