- Chandra Speight, PhD, RN, NP-C, CNE is an assistant professor in the Department of Advanced Nursing Practice and Education in the College of Nursing at East Carolina University. Her research considers the overlapping topics of nurse practitioner capacity and healthcare access in rural areas, focusing on substance use disorder treatment. Her research has been funded by the UNC Collaboratory, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Aetna Foundation, the East Carolina University Health Foundation, and the North Carolina Governor's Institute. She has shared her scholarly work in Nursing Forum, The Journal for Nurse Practitioners, The Journal of Advanced Nursing, The Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and at the International Nurses Society on Addictions Conference, the Southern Nursing Research Society Annual Conference, the North Carolina Nurses Association Nurse Practitioner Spring Symposium, the American Nurses Association Quality Conference, and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Scientific Symposium. Dr. Speight holds a master of arts in political science, a master of arts in English, a master of science in nursing, and a PhD in nursing. In addition to teaching health care policy, translational science, and clinical courses to advanced practice nursing students, Dr. Speight has worked as a family nurse practitioner in eastern North Carolina.
