Joe Busuito

overview

  • Joe Busuito is the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at East Carolina University. He is the director of the Marching Pirates and Basketball Pep Band, conductor of the Symphonic Band, and he teaches courses in marching band techniques, conducting, and wind band literature.
    Prior to his appointment at ECU, Busuito was the Assistant Director of Concert and Athletic Bands at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey from 2017 to 2020 where he conducted the Symphony Band and instructed the marching and pep bands, as well as courses in conducting and brass instrument techniques.
    Busuito holds the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Conducting, Wind Band from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he studied with Steve Peterson. His doctoral research on the composer Walter Hartley was published in the WASBE Journal, and he presented at the CBDNA National Conference in 2018.
    He received a Master of Music in Wind Conducting from Western Michigan University in 2015 where he was a student of Scott Boerma. Busuito also received his Bachelor of Music Education from WMU in 2009. From 2009 to 2013, Joe was a public school teacher and served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan where he was a part of the instruction of three concert bands, jazz band, marching band, music theory, IB music, guitar, and general music classes.
    Busuito has also been involved in the drum corps activity since 2006. Most recently, he was a member of the brass staff of the Cadets from 2017 to 2020. From 2012 through 2015, Busuito served as a brass staff member for the Santa Clara Vanguard, and he began his drum corps teaching career in 2011 with the Bluecoats where he taught the baritones and euphoniums. He was a member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2006 and 2007.
    Joe is originally from Lake Orion, Michigan. He lives with his wife, two sons, and their tri-color collie in Greenville, North Carolina.

  • Festivals of Music Served as an adjudicator for Festivals of Music, an invitational wind band festival for high school and middle school bands traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC. Provided comments and ratings for the invited bands. 2024
  • NCMEA East-Central MPA Served as one of the adjudicators for the NCMEA East-Central District's Music Performance Assessment. Provided feedback for approximately fifty over the course of two days. 2024
  • WindFest, Fayetteville State University Served as an adjudicator for WindFest, an invitational wind band festival for high school and middle school bands. Provided comments and ratings for the invited bands. 2024
  • Pirate Classic Served as an an invited adjudicator for the Pirate Classic at Topsail HS. Feedback provided to numerous local high school marching bands. 2024
