- Dr. Keith A. Preble is a teaching assistant professor at East Carolina University. He has also worked as a postdoctoral researcher for the Center for Policy Research at the University at Albany, SUNY and has served as a consultant for several organizations, including the Pacific Forum and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in Europe. His research focuses on economic statecraft, the role of economic power in foreign policy, sanctions enforcement challenges, sanctions evasion and circumvention as well as proliferation and terrorism financing. Along with Dr. Crystal Pryor (Center for Policy Research, UAlbany), he has also been investigating the economic benefits of strategic trade controls on trade values and foreign direct investment and economic security challenges in foreign policy, especially in East Asia. Dr. Preble - along with Dr. Charmaine N. Willis Ward (Old Dominion University) - are the authors of Trading with Pariahs: Trade Networks and the Failure of Economic Sanctions, which utilizes social network analysis to underscore the difficulties in using economic sanctions against international pariah states. Dr. Preble holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University at Albany, SUNY (2021), a master's degree in public policy and administration from Northwestern University (2017) and a master's degree in government and politics from St. John's University (2014). Dr. Preble received his B.A. in art history and classics from the University of Melbourne (2003).
