Brittany Andrea Baker

  • Dr. Brittany Baker is a nurse educator who has provided didactic and clinical education to undergraduate and graduate nursing students for more than 10 years. She is also a certified family nurse practitioner, with a background in the provision of community-based, acute, and primary care services to clients across the lifespan. Her care approach prioritizes evidence-based, quality care, with an emphasis on health promotion and maintenance for her clients. A resounding theme in Dr. Baker's clinical practice, is the integration of nursing science, theory, and client-centered care, to provide equitable, meaningful, and quality healthcare experiences for individuals, families, and populations.
    Dr. Baker's research interests involve understanding and implementing strategies to minimize health-related disparities; and to better understand the healthcare experiences and outcomes of minority populations. Furthermore, she wants to utilize this information to support infrastructural strategies to minimize disparities and advance health equity. Dr. Baker has conducted research in the areas of immunization uptake; disparities related to the COVID-19 pandemic in underserved areas of North Carolina and substance use disorder management; and healthcare experiences of African American women survivors of violence.
