Ford Grant

  • Ford T. Grant, D.M.D., born in Louisville, Kentucky, received dental and GPR training at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD). ; Dr. Grant served as part time faculty in the department of periodontics at the ULSD for five years, while maintaining a solo private practice. ;He then completed the Medicine-Dentistry Geriatric Fellowship at the University of Kentucky’s Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. ;During his Fellowship, he collaborated on a study of Alzheimer’s disease, amalgam and brain mercury, as part of the “Nun Study.” ;On completion of his Fellowship, he joined the faculty of Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC as Director of Geriatric Dental Education and Director of CMC’s Special Care Dental Center. ; ;In 1997 in conjunction with CMC, he established Carolinas Mobile Dentistry (CMD) a nationally recognized mobile nursing home dental service. ;CMD recieved the 2001 American Dental Association Geriatric Oral Health Care Award and recognized as an "Exemplary Program in Geriatrics" by the UNC-CH School of Medicine, Program on Aging. ;Dr. Grant was a founding board member and consultant with Access Dental Care, the leading special care mobile dental provider in NC. ;He is presently on faculty at East Carolina University’s School of Dental Medicine, serving as Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the ECU SoDM Community Service Learning Center in Ahoskie, NC. ; He is a past president and Fellow of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry (FASGD), a founding member and Diplomate of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry (DABSCD), member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in Special Needs Dentistry (mSND, RCSEd), Fellow in the RCSEd, inducted as Fellow, American College of Dentists and Fellow, Academy of Dentistry International. ;
