    Kurt Fickling, CRM, CIC, CRIS began his insurance career in 1970 with The Hartford. In 1976 he started an insurance agency in Greenville, NC, specializing in writing large commercial property and casualty accounts. Kurt has served on numerous industry and insurance company boards, panels, task force and committees, such as the Residual Market Committee for NCCI, NC Workers Compensation Advisory Committee, NC Insurance Advisory Committee, NC ISO Producer Liaison Committee, IIABA Commercial Lines Technical Committee, IIANC Technical Committee and IIANC Education Committee. ; Kurt has also served as Chairman of The Hartford's Jonathan Trumbull Council, and has served on several other insurance company national advisory boards.

    Kurt is actively involved in insurance education teaching insurance policy classes and CE. ; He has written numerous classes on commercial lines coverage, including Ethics for the Insurance Agent, Alternative Risk Financing, Using A Captive Insurance Company and The Surplus Lines Marketplace, Workers Compensation, Commercial Property, Commercial Liability and Commercial Auto.

    Kurt has been recognized by both IIABA and IIANC, having received the Independent Agent of the Year Award, Education Award and Presidential Citation for Workers Compensation from IIANC. ; Additionally, Kurt received a Presidential Citation from IIABA for Workers Compensation.

    Kurt sold his insurance agency in 2001 and not liking retirement, started a consulting company that works with Independent Insurance Agencies in their management planning and professional sales training as well as doing risk management work for larger commercial clients, litigation support in property and casualty insurance matters, and property and casualty insurance agency valuations.

    In 2012, Kurt was asked to join the faculty at East Carolina University in the Risk Management and Insurance program in the College of Business, Department of Finance where he teaches Corporate Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Commercial Liability and Commercial Property Insurance. ; Kurt has been actively involved in the program and enjoys teaching and working with the students. ; ; ; In 2015 IIANC and NCSLA endowed a Chair in Risk Management and Insurance at ECU and named the Chair in Kurt’s honor.
