Sheena M. Eagan is an Associate Professor with the Department of Bioethics and Interdisciplinary Studies, as well asadjunct facultywith theDepartmentofPublic Health in the Brody School of Medicine. Dr. Eagan is a faculty advisor to BSOM's Military Medicine Interest Group, and one of the coordinators of theMedicalReaders'TheaterProgram.Before coming to ECU, she worked as a defense sub-contractor providing ethics education to military service-members and their families. Dr. Eagan also held a variety of visiting scholar positions for Yale University, the Brocher Foundation, and the University of Belgrade.
Dr. Eagan holds PhD in the medical humanities from the Institute for the Medical Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston as well as a Master of Public Health from the Uniformed Services University. Her doctoral studies focused on medical ethics and the history of medicine, with a subspecialized focus on military medicine. Dr. Eagan is the creator and president of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities group for Military, Humanitarian and Disaster Medicine and has worked closely with the International Committee ofMilitaryMedicine.Dr. Eagan has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, military-specific journals, and contributed to edited books ona variety of topics inmilitarymedicine. She has also given talks and lectures on here work in North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Dr. Eagan has developed and taught a variety of course on topics ranging from general ethics and the medical humanities, to specialized courses on military medical ethics and ethics in public health. Dr Eagan teaches ETHC 8000 (Ethical Issues in Medicine), and HUMS 7004 (Research Ethics). She isthecourse directorofthe ETHC 9000 (Society,Culture,andHealthSystems) course, as well as two (M3/M4) courses inmilitarymedical ethics.
