Eric Walter Lang

overview

  • Eric is a tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Computer Science researching ways to simulate and visualize human behavior in game engines. His expertise is primarily in human-centered computing and classical AI search planning techniques. He is interested in assisting the creative processes of designers who create virtual worlds by providing useful data about how real people are likely to behave within these created environments. He achieved a BS in Computer Science with a Concentration in Game Development from NC State University in 2012 before being hired by an enterprise storage startup called DSSD in California. Four years later, after DSSD was acquired by EMC and then EMC was acquired by Dell, he decided to go back to academia and enter a PhD program in the Human-Centered Computing track at the School of Computing at the University of Utah. After achieving his doctoral degree in the Spring of 2025, he started at ECU in the Fall of 2025 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science.
