Shana Harrington

  • Shana Harrington, PT, PhD, Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Health and Human Sciences at East Carolina University. She also holds a Manual Therapy Certification. Dr. Harrington earned her PhD in Interdisciplinary Human Movement Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, and she completed the NIH Rehabilitation Research Career Development Program (K12) at the University of Florida.
    Dr. Harrington's scholarship focuses on cancer survivorship and oncology rehabilitation, including cancer-related fatigue, cancer rehabilitation navigation, exercise oncology, and oncology education in physical therapist training. Her research also addresses injury and injury prevention in para sport athletes. She serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Cancer Survivorship and has published extensively in leading rehabilitation and oncology journals.
    A national leader in oncologic physical therapy, Dr. Harrington serves as Vice President of the Academy of Oncologic Physical Therapy (APTA Oncology) and as the Academy's Chief Delegate to the APTA House of Delegates. She also serves the international adaptive sport community as a Paralympic medical classifier for Para swimming and paratriathlon. Her leadership preparation includes the HERS Leadership Institute and the APTA Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership.
