• Dr. Alyssa Spence serves as Interim Director of the NC Agromedicine Institute. She is the daughter of a first-generation Appalachian farmer and, by marriage, a member of a multigenerational farm family in eastern North Carolina. Her work is shaped by lived experience in agriculture as a farm youth, agriculture teacher, and agricultural extension agent. Dr. Spence focuses on translating research into practical, non-regulatory interventions for agricultural communities, with special research interests in agricultural safety and health and the work-family dynamics of agricultural populations.
