• Holding a PhD in African History from Michigan State University, Dr. Shannon Vance has been teaching at the college level for twenty years. An expert on Atlantic World history, including French, American, colonial, and West African history, Dr. Vance has a wide and varied teaching portfolio which includes courses like Genocide in the 20th Century, African American History, and Senior Seminars. Dr. Vance has published brief articles on West African history and on teaching History in Higher Education. She currently serves as the Interim Associate Chair of the History Department at East Carolina University.
