Dr. Cheryl Meola is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies at East Carolina University and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor. She is the founder of Mane Source Counseling, where she integrates equine-assisted services, eco-wellness, and experiential approaches into trauma-informed care.
Her teaching interests include counseling skills practice, clinical supervision, and the integration of interpersonal neurobiology and nervous system regulation into counseling practice. Her research explores equine-assisted services, counselor development, trauma, and the translation of research into practice, with a focus on program evaluation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Meola is passionate about preparing future counselors to develop authentic professional identities, bridging science and practice for educators and community stakeholders, and advancing ethical and evidence-informed approaches to equine-assisted and nature-based interventions.
